Knowing How to Prevent Varicose Veins

Varicose veins nowadays bother about half of the world’s population. Furthermore, not only do they look unattractive but they can lead to serious medical conditions such as skin ulcers. Not to mention that they can cause you a great deal of pain. Modern medicine still has no cure for either varicose veins or a similar condition called spider veins. Therefore, knowing how to prevent varicose veins is a crucial thing.

Easy steps of prevention

The first thing you need to do to prevent varicose veins from ever appearing is to exercise regularly. Jogging and walking are essential for maintaining circulation in legs which will keep varicose veins at bay. Knowing that varicose veins are the consequence of pressure in veins, it is necessary to reduce overall high blood pressure. Well, exercising will help you with that.

Another thing to have in mind is to avoid prolonged standing if possible. You do not want to increase pressure in your veins as the pressure weakens the walls of your veins and prolonged standing will do exactly this. If your job requires standing for long hours, try to change position as much as possible and, even better, try taking a walk every half hour. Having a healthy body weight is a must. Substitute white bread and meat with vegetables and fruit and not only will you have healthy veins but your whole body will be healthy. Smoking also greatly increases the chances of getting varicose veins.

If you are still unsure how to prevent varicose veins, don’t worry. Another trick is to elevate your feet frequently. When you are done with your job, relax for a while with your feet up. Another useful thing is to lift your bed slightly so that your legs are always higher than the rest of your body. Instead of simply thinking about how to prevent varicose veins, do something very simple: always choose the right clothing. Tight-fitting clothing will stop your natural circulation and create unnecessary pressure in your veins. Thus, wear loose, comfortable clothes made of natural materials in combination with low-heeled shoes all the time.

Even though ladies like to cross their legs while sitting, this slows down their blood circulation and, in the long run, creates varicose veins. Sitting properly is therefore an important thing to have in mind. High-estrogen birth control pills have damaging effects as well. As they alter valve functioning, they increase the risk of creating varicose veins. Stay away from them by all means and consult your physician about this issue.

However, if it is too late for prevention of varicose veins and you see that they have already appeared on your body, try helping yourself with compression hose. It is important to buy support hose that is proper fit to you. If your varicose veins are in developed stages and they are causing you pain on a daily basis, you might consider medical treatments such as sclerotherapy, laser surgery, and vein stripping. Your GP will help you choosing the option that best suits your needs.
